Biography

Dr. Bing Pan is a Professor of Commercial Recreation and Tourism at Pennsylvania State University's Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management. His research focuses on utilizing big data, data analytics, and simulation to understand and enhance visitor experience and safety, particularly in the contexts of national parks and destinations. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Cornell University. Before joining Penn State in 2016, he was a faculty member at the College of Charleston, where he directed the Office of Tourism Analysis. Dr. Pan was a Fulbright Scholar to Singapore 2024-2025 and an elected Fellow of the Academy of Leisure Sciences, and he secured around two million USD in research grants. He served as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Tourism Analysis as well as an editorial board member of many tourism journals.
